Krasnoyarsk’s 38th Geology Olympics is now accepting applications, with students in years 3 to 11 at school eligible. Any geology study groups and their leaders can also participate in the competition.
The Geology Olympics is organized by the GEOS Central Siberia Museum in partnership with the Mining, Geology and Geotechnologies Institute, under the Federal Siberian University, as well as being supported by Polyus and the regional Ministry of Ecology and Nature Conservation.
To apply, an applicant must submit a research task of their choice that is associated with any Earth-related science: geology, paleontology, petrography, hydrogeology, geography, earth and soil sciences. For instance, an applicant could explore mineral resources, significant geological or mineral sites, natural landmarks, soil compositions, wind erosion or geological and environmental problems within the Krasnoyarsk region.
The project could be presented as an abstract or a research paper. Young geologists will also have to defend their projects, as all will be subject to scrutiny. An applicant may submit several projects in many different areas.
The winners will be awarded certificates and souvenirs. Each participant will obtain an individual certificate indicating their participation the project.
The deadline for submitting applications is 2 October 2021, with final projects to be submitted by 4 October 2021.The results will be announced on 26 October 2021.
