The Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) has recently been fighting wildfires, largely caused by extremely hot and dry weather conditions. These have been the most severe conditions since the end of the 19th century, with up to 75 new fires being registered daily during July.
The emergency situation remains in place, and fires continue to be extinguished. The situation has left many local residents of Sakha homeless, and ensuring that fire extinguishers are available, action plans are implemented and those affected can return to normality requires a high level of funding.
As a member of the local community, Polyus is supporting the Trust Fund for Future Generations of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), a non-profit organization operating in the region by donating funds. Polyus Aldan has also donated RUB 5 million in aid to help those impacted by the fires.
Polyus Aldan has also previously donated funds to a local organization working with a Nemyugyun agricultural community development project, enabling them to purchase two tons of diesel to fuel their fire engines.
