Daria Grigoryeva, Head of Sustainability at Polyus, commented:“Polyus is implementing a large-scale environmental program. We are developing our extensive climate strategy, which we intend to release this year, setting our clear targets and timelines. The Company is pursuing a comprehensive approach to mitigating its climate impact, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by increasing the share of renewable energy consumption and reducing our reliance on coal: over the past four years we have halved our coal consumption, and we continue to progress in this area.
Polyus is committed to maintaining industry best practice for disclosure, and in late March, Polyus was proud to become the first major company in Russia to publish a Water Report and annually releases its Sustainability Report. In the long term, Polyus intends to switch completely to green energy. ”
During a panel session on “Prospects for Renewable Energy in Siberia”, Alexey Kaplun, Director for Energy Development at RusHydro, highlighted that Polyus is developing its energy strategy to 2035.
Alexey Kaplun, Director for Energy Development at RusHydro, commented:“We are taking targeted steps in this direction: Polyus’ business units continue reducing coal consumption and increasing their share of renewable sources. In February, Polyus signed an agreement with RusHydro for the supply of renewable electricity to Olimpiada and Blagodatnoye, located in the Krasnoyarsk Region. The modernization program of the Mamakan HPP, part of the Polyus Power Group, is set to commence. Its installed capacity is expected to be increased by 40%. The Mamakan HPP will also be supplied with renewable energy sources.”
