Polyus Career Day at INRTU (Irkutsk National Research Technical University)

Polyus held its career day at INRTU. The event started with the opening ceremony for the branded lecture hall — this is the second such lecture hall at Irkutsk Polytech to be refurbished and equipped thanks to Polyus’ support.

“Improving the university’s facilities is an important part of our work aimed at hands-on development of the external talent pool for the company. This work also includes educational projects: together with INRTU, the company implements the vocational Polyus Class for high school students and a corporate program for training students in the Automation of Mining Transport Processes,” said Natalya Kasymova, HR Director at Polyus.

The new lecture hall is equipped with everything needed to ensure the students have an efficient and comfortable environment for their studies. In addition to new desks, a projector and a map of Polyus’ assets, it features a public library with research and business literature, as well as books on the history of gold mining in Irkutsk region and Russia. Bright colors and designer solutions reflect Polyus’ corporate culture and will encourage students to study and acquire new knowledge.

“In 2018, the company completed a major refurbishment of the ZH hemicycle, and in 2022 it presented the A.V. Sidorov Mineralogical Museum with a collection of gold-bearing ore samples. Today, our strategic partner is opening a new space for our young people. We would like to thank the company for its support and look forward to our new joint projects,” said Mikhail Kornyakov, INRTU president, in his welcoming remarks.

After the opening ceremony, students had the opportunity to meet some successful Irkutsk Polytech graduates. Igor Tsukurov, the Managing Director of Polyus Verninskoye and Polyus Sukhoi Log, joined the event via video call to congratulate the event participants and shared his formula for success.

“The important thing is to be passionate about everything related to your work, whether complex technical tasks or extreme environmental conditions,” he noted. “If you’re passionate about all these things, you will never lose your motivation. It’s also important to strive for professional development and growth. I believe that it’s thanks to these qualities that I have achieved success in my career.”

The career day continued with meetings with experts from Polyus Verninskoye and Polyus Logistics. They spoke about growth opportunities for young specialists in gold mining, employment opportunities after graduating from the university and paid internships at production assets. Besides INRTU students, students from Usolsk Industrial Vocational School and Mechanical Engineering Vocational School joined the meeting with Polyus Logistics experts.

“For many years, our partner — Irkutsk Polytech — has been helping the company to hire skilled employees,” according to Anna Astayeva, a university engagement expert at Polyus. “Today, as part of this career day, our experts have spoken about the company and professions that we need most, including about how to get a paid internship at our company. We want to make sure that INRTU students are ready to take on real-life business tasks, and as part of our Know the Worth of Gold program, they will be able to learn new skills and get paid for their work.”

The event closed with a fun quiz, with over 100 students taking part. And, of course, the winners of the quiz received great prizes.
