As Russia celebrated the Geologist’s Day, the industry’s focus is shifting towards developing deposits in Siberia and the Far East of Russia, which account for 86% of the country’s gold potential. Sukhoi Log in Irkutsk Region, operated by Polyus, is a key project that is turning the Bodaibo District into a new gold mining center.
«We have entered a new cycle of growth, which will involve major investments in development. Most of the investments are being directed towards developing Sukhoi Log, Russia’s largest gold deposit where we have been conducting pilot production since 2024. This allows us to study the ore characteristics in detail and design the most efficient processing methods. At the same time, we continue work on other projects, including Chertovo Koryto, which is also located in Irkutsk Region,» Alexey Vostokov, the CEO of Polyus, commented.
The project involves large-scale construction of power and transport infrastructure. Construction of the Vitim substation, power lines, modern fuel and lubricant storage and comfortable accommodations has been completed on site. Construction of the bridge across the Vitim River and the modernization of the logistics base marked an important stage, as this will ensure uninterrupted operation of the future mine.
Alongside its technical development, Polyus is introducing artificial intelligence and keeps personnel training in focus. Together with the Tomsk Polytechnic University, Polyus has launched the Mine Geology program, which allows students to undergo internships on mine sites and receive named scholarships. In this way the Company is building a talent pool to support the technological sovereignty of the industry.
