Polyus PJSC announces the publication of its 2023 Sustainability Report. The document was prepared in accordance with standards set out in the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and with reference to Order No. 764 of Russia’s Ministry of Economic Development dated 1 November 2023 «On approval of methodological recommendations for the preparation of sustainability reporting». The report reflects the Company’s commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and Polyus’ experience as a participant of the UN Global Compact, as well as its accomplishments in delivering national projects of the Russian Federation. The Sustainability Report has been independently certified by the auditing company Financial and Accounting Consultants.
In 2023, Polyus continued to implement the Company’s Climate Strategy to achieve its goal of carbon neutrality by 2050. The Company introduced energy-efficient technology and developed climate projects, which helped reduce gross direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions by 24% compared to the 2020 baseline. Polyus seeks to minimize its environmental impact: in the reporting year, the Company launched an automated monitoring and control system for the hydraulic structures of tailings storage facilities at the Olimpiada deposit, which significantly reduces the risks associated with dam operation.
In the reporting year, Polyus also continued to carry out its social and economic programs in its regions of operations: the Company allocated funds to repair bridges and purchase equipment for a hospital in Irkutsk Region, completed construction of sports facilities in Yakutia and provided financial support for the major renovation of a school in Magadan Region, for the Evenk national festival in Khabarovsk Territory and other projects. A significant event in the reporting year was the establishment of Polyus Fund, which allows public organizations to implement initiatives that address the region’s pressing issues.
