Polyus welcomes new ICMM protocols on tailings management

Polyus welcomes the launch by the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM) of two new tailings management resources: Conformance Protocols for the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management and a Tailings Management Good Practice Guide.

Following the launch of the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management by the Global Tailings Review in 2020, the new resources will help operators and independent third parties assess and improve the safe and transparent management of tailings. Polyus was closely involved in the Standard’s development and remains committed to implementing the Standard across its operations. The Company welcomes the ICMM’s Conformance Protocols and Tailings Management Good Practice Guide as a vital resource for wider adoption of the Standard.

As a member of the ICMM, specialists from Polyus participated in the Working Group that developed the Tailings Management Good Practice Guide, providing recommendations on governance and engineering best practice.

In addition, Polyus produced the official Russian language version of the Tailings Management Good Practice Guide, to support wider uptake of the Standard within the Russian mining community.
