Over 2,800 workers and contractors at Polyus Magadan, including approximately 1,300 permanent employees, have received a Covid-19 vaccine.
Employees and contractors received a combination of the Gam-COVID-Vac (Sputnik V) and single-dose Sputnik Light vaccine. Prior to being vaccinated, recipients completed a survey and obligatory medical examination including checking their temperature, levels of oxygen in their blood and blood pressure.
Vladlen Brin, HSE Director at Polyus Magadan, stated,«Side effects following receiving a COVID vaccine are generally mild and last less than 3 days. Typical side effects include shoulder pain, fever, fatigue and muscle pain. COVID vaccines only provide protection against SARS-CoV-2, so the Company also launched a flu and pneumococcal bacteria immunization campaign. This is one of the most important protective and healthcare initiatives we offer to our workers.»
Due to the challenging epidemiological situation and high number of COVID-19 cases, doctors advise receiving a second vaccination 6 months after the first vaccine or recovery from contracting the virus. Abiding by this advice, the Company commenced offering second jabs to employees and contractors in August.
Aleksandr Ognev, Managing Director of Polyus Magadan, added,«We feel responsible for the safety of our employees and have implemented strict preventative measures since the pandemic began. Most employees and contractors at Polyus Magadan have now been vaccinated against COVID-19, and we are in the process of vaccinating the rest. The Company maintains strict preventative policies, such as wearing masks, COVID testing, undergoing a pre-shift observation period and daily medical checkups. We have also installed infra-red antibacterial air treatment devices, and premises are regularly ventilated.»
