In 2018, Polyus completed over 70 projects in the Aldansky District in the Republic of Sakha. A total of RUB 16 million was spent on the projects, with a significant proportion donated to educational and medical institutions.
At the beginning of each academic year, Polyus carries out funding activities aimed at helping local students and teachers by providing supplies and learning materials to schools and kindergartens in Aldansky District. Shortly before the first day of school, Polyus issues special gift certificates to all of the educational institutions of the town of Nizhny Kuranakh and to the Aldansky District Family Centre which can be used for upgrading their facilities.
Polyus is a long-time partner of Nizhny Kuranakh’s gymnasium. The Company financed a robotics resource centre in the school which has been a huge success with the students who have started participating in various robotics competitions, including a Sakha-wide contest held as part of RoboFest in Yakutsk.
Raziya Ulybina, the Headmaster of the Nizhny Kuranakh Gymnasium said:“We are very grateful for Polyus’ help with fulfilling many important initiatives, aimed at substantially improving the facilities available to our students.”
In the near future, the gymnasium’s facilities will be refurbished, and a new security system installed which will include a CCTV system and a fire alarm.
Additionally, Polyus Aldan runs and sponsors the Metallurg Sports Centre, where almost all of Nizhny Kuranakh’s residents go for sports and recreation. The Company also sponsors numerous sports and cultural events in the region.
Aside from educational and sports activities, Polyus provides a lot of support to local medical institutions. This year, the Company is planning to fund medical equipment upgrades at the neurological department at the Aldan Central District Hospital. In addition, the health check-up unit at the local Aldan Clinic will also receive funding for equipment upgrades.
