Polyus and the Siberian Federal University launched a corporate training program on the planning and design of mining and drill and blast operations. This will provide senior students with the opportunity to gain further skills that are in high demand in the industry.
The program’s first wave will include 16 students who were selected based on their educational achievements and motivation letters.
“My main objective in enrolling in this program is to get a job in Polyus. For this I need to get practical experience while I’m studying. Practice at university is not enough, and here we will be involved directly in operations. Polyus is popular among our students and has a good reputation, which is why I would like to build a career with the company,” said fifth-year student Ruslan Pesterev.
The training program includes theory and practice and targets fifth-grade students from the Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals majoring in open pit mining, surveying and mining equipment. Each participant signs an agreement with the company. This is a one-year program, and students receive a special scholarship.
“We launched this unique training project together with the Siberian Federal University. The goal is to build an external talent pool, so that after they graduate, students come to us with the qualifications and competences required by business. We drew up a program and created conditions for future employees to keep up with and understand operational processes. Both the university’s professors and the company’s experts will teach and share knowledge, skills and even some secrets. I hope that the students will find inspiration and fall in love with the job of a miner,” commented Natalia Kasymova, Recruitment and HR Development Director at Polyus.
Polyus also helped to equip a computer class in the Institute. This will enable students to learn how to work with specialized software used in the company, including Micromine and MineSched. Other students will be allowed access in addition to corporate program participants.
