Polyus plans to refurbish the Mamakan Hydro Power Plant (HPP) in Bodaibo, located in the north of the Irkutsk Region, the world’s first hydropower station to be built on permafrost.
Alexey Kaplun, Director of Polyus’ Energy Department , who participated in the Krasnoyarsk Economic Forum, confirmed that the Company is developing its energy strategy, which stipulates that the Mamakan HPP in Bodaibo will be refurbished.
Alexey Kaplun, Director of Polyus’ Energy Department, commented:Polyus is launching the modernization program of the Mamakan HPP, which forms part of Polyus Power Group. The total capacity of the HPP will be increased by 40%, and will be supplied by renewable energy sources.
Mr. Kaplun added that, in February of this year, Polyus signed an agreement with RusHydro for 100% of the electricity consumed by Polyus’ operations in the Krasnoyarsk Region, namely Olimpiada and Blagodatnoye, to be renewable.
Polyus is currently developing the Sukhoi Log greenfield project, a project of unparalleled scale, in the Bodaibo region.
