UN Sustainable Development Goals: How Polyus combats corruption

As a business, Polyus prioritizes combating corruption and has formed an effective anti-corruption and bribery system in order to build and maintain genuine and transparent relationships with the company’s stakeholders. Polyus has a zero-tolerance attitude towards bribery and corruption, and strictly adheres to not only domestic, but also foreign anti-corruption laws of the highest standard, including the UK Bribery Act.

SustainCase, an organisation that promotes the value of comprehensive sustainability reporting and provides insights on how companies can improve their environmental and sustainability credentials, has published a case study describing how Polyus combats corruption across its business.

The study notes how Polyus closely follows guidelines set out by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), which enables companies to increase their transparency and take more responsibility for their social and environmental impacts.

In particular, SustainCase comments on how the GRI standards upheld by Polyus directly contribute to UN Sustainable Development Goal 16 — ‘Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions’. This is demonstrated by a number of initiatives that the company has put in place to prevent corruption. These measures include the implementation of an Anti-Corruption Policy, the provision of in-depth anti-corruption training for employees since 2017 and the establishment of a security hotline to facilitate whistleblowing or communications of concern. These actions correspond with the goal to promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.
