Polyus supports renovation of children’s ward at the Ivano-Matreninskaya hospital

On 12 October, Ivano-Matreninskaya Children’s Clinical Hospital, which is based in Irkutsk, reopened its surgery unit for young children, newborns and premature infants.

Vladimir Novozhilov, Chief Medical Officer of the Hospital, commented:

«We are happy to see how the centre has been transformed, we have been waiting for these changes for a long time. The equipment and facilities, including utilities, furniture and equipment, hospital rooms and workplaces, have been completely upgraded. We are delighted to see how accommodation and treatment conditions have been considerably improved».

The surgery unit is able to accommodate 30 beds. Up to six severely unwell patients can be treated here simultaneously under round-clock supervision. A special care unit for premature babies weighing as little as 700 grams was introduced, with new cutting-edge apparatuses installed at the hospital.

Such a large-scale renovation would have been impossible without support. Lenzoloto, as part of Polyus group, provided considerable support for the initiative. Maxim Semyanskikh, General Director of Lenzoloto, initiated and inspired the project. Despite the pandemic, the renovation was complete within six months.

Andrey Rasputin, Chief of Surgery for newborns and Premature Infants, commented: «The company donated this unit for our young patients by making its huge efforts and investments. It’s interesting to see how history repeats itself ‒ 126 years ago, Irkutsk merchant Ivan Bazanov built the hospital and donated it to the city administration. By total coincidence, at that time he owned the gold deposits where Lenzoloto currently operates. And the gold miners have been reliable partners for us all these years.»

Roman Engelgard, Polyus GR Director in Irkutsk, commented:

«We were very happy to support the Ivano-Matreninskaya hospital with the renovation. Our company invests significant funds in upgrading the local healthcare infrastructure as public health appears to be the most important matter».

From now on, children from across Russia and in particular the Bodaibo region, where Polyus operates, will receive medical care in the renovated unit.
